'Bruise' originated from my concern about the sandbags under the signage in the streets. Unlike the brightly coloured patterns and fonts on the signs, the sense of space created between the cold iron frame and the monotonous sandbags attracted my attention. I took many photographs of these sandbags, and the more I looked at them, the more I subconsciously anthropomorphised them. They are placed all over the city by people, in constant silence and with no choice. Empty sandbags are easily carried, transported and will be filled with local sand or soil, the same material that is encased into nature. The soil inside it grows moss during long sustained rainy days and spreads to the surface of the sandbag, fusing into its skin. They were blown around in the wind and spat out the dirt. They are also pressed into different shapes by the iron frame, and the tension and sense of space between them reminds me of a crowd. In the previous performance image, I replaced the sandbags pressed on the iron frame, trying to become them and feel them further. In this I gained a new perspective and my flesh gained a new bruise.
